Journey to the center of the universe

It was a pleasant day. I was walking towards my office. Someone called me from behind and I turned back. But I couldn’t find any so I walked ahead. A cold breeze started blowing.  Like in the harry potter, how the snake whispers to  Harry in parslemouth was how it was. I walked in hurry alarmed. Suddenly my cell beeped. It was a notification from one of the travel mobile application.

I didn’t think twice, just went ahead and booked the tickets to the land I have heard only from the movies and news.

Bali!!! What a beautiful island!!?

A place where humans and nature live in harmony. Bali is a province of Indonesia which is located between the islands of Java and Lombok island, Bali island is also commonly referred to as The Island Of Thousands TemplesThe Island of Gods, and Bali Dwipa, The island of the gods, others Shangri-La. The last paradise, The dawning of the world and The center of the universe are yet more names for this truly beautiful tropical island inhabited by Balinese.

Bali also has several small islands are also included in the province of Bali, including the island of Nusa PenidaNusa Lembongan Island, Nusa Ceningan island, Serangan Island and Menjangan island. It is a land which holds a magnet at its very heart. A feeling that is very difficult to understand unless experienced but once visited you are surely compelled to go back and you may even want to stay forever, such is its pull. Maybe its Bali’s beauty, or maybe the friendly people, maybe even the influence of spirits that certainly abide in this place.

Even if tourism is the main source of Income, Balinese doesn’t let modernization cross the boundary walls they had set between their tradition and means of living. Even in 2018 their main source of Income is agriculture and they love to live that way. They are hard workers. Rice is grown on irrigated, terraced hillsides, not on lowest attitude area; other crops include sugar cane, chili, coffee, copra, tobacco, fruits, and vegetables. Cattle and hogs are also raised. Most of the recent agricultural irrigation technologies are not known to the farmers here.

The Balinese are skilled artisans, particularly in woodcarving and in fashioning objects of tortoiseshell and of gold, silver, and other metals. The Balinese are noted for their traditional dance, the distinctive music of the gamelan and for their skills in weaving cloth of gold and silver threads, Songket, as well as for embroidering silk and cotton clothing.

The king Sri Kesari Warmadewa from Sanur in Bali gave the island the name Bali Dwipa in the year 913, which has the Sanscrit meaning island of sacrifice, reincarnation, or offering. Daily life on Bali is culturally linked to satisfying and appeasing the gods, spirits, and demons in the midst of breathtaking panoramas of cultivated rice terraces, impressive volcanoes, and pristine beaches. This land was known among foreign sailors as Bally, Boly, or Ballie, and the Spanish called it Minor Java.

Though Bali is a province of Indonesia, you can see a huge difference between both the islands. Probably because of the past it has or the myths they believed and were transferred from the generations to generations. Because of the interventions made by India and Srilanka in the past, the religious beliefs are bit different here from other Asian countries. The Hinduism followed are different from the beliefs in India. Even the architecture of Balinese temple is different from Indian. Chineses stories of spirits and demons and the Buddist way of the offering has a great influence on Bali’s religious belief. You can see temples in every nook and corner of Bali.

Now when I look back, I realize the whisper I heard back then. The spirits of Bali are still calling me, for another adventurous trip to the core of the universe.

to be continued…
